About us

Honestly, I started this site because I got tired of reading generic, robotic technical blogs that never actually show the error logs or the specific config lines you need when a server goes down at 2 AM. At How To Software, we skip the fluff. Our mission is to provide high-level, step-by-step documentation for DevOps engineers, sysadmins, and homelab enthusiasts who are tired of “hello world” tutorials and need real solutions for complex infrastructure.

Our Core Pillars of Expertise

We focus on the exact technologies that power modern data centers and homelabs:

  • Virtualization & Homelabs: Advanced Proxmox VE configurations, PCIe passthrough, and resolving frustrating IOMMU grouping errors.

  • Infrastructure Automation: Writing production-ready Ansible playbooks and managing multi-cloud state with Terraform.

  • Containerization & Orchestration: Deploying scalable applications using Docker, LXC, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

  • Linux System Administration: Deep-dive troubleshooting for kernel panics, package management, and system optimization.

Why Trust Our Guides?

Everything you read here is battle-tested. We don’t just write about software; we break it, fix it, and then document the process. Whether it’s a troubleshooting guide for Proxmox IOMMU errors or an Ansible Windows update loop, our guides come from actual terminal sessions and real-world deployments. We believe in “show, don’t just tell” by providing the exact commands and configs we use in our own environments.

Get In Touch

Have a specific technical problem or a suggestion for a guide? We’re always looking to document new fixes and edge-case configurations. Feel free to reach out—I’m usually hanging out in a terminal, testing new Terraform modules, or optimizing Proxmox clusters.
