Google Photos Adds Video Playback Speed Control

Google Photos is adding a new video playback speed control to its Android app, letting users adjust playback between 0.5x and 2x speed directly within the app. The feature is being gradually rolled out to Android users now, while there has been no announcement about an iOS version.

The speed control appears within the video player interface during playback. Google has not specified whether the control is available through a dedicated button or a menu toggle.

Google Photos Video Speed Options and Android Rollout

According to Google Photos’ support page, the speed options available range from 0.5x for slower playback to 2x for faster viewing. Google has not confirmed whether intermediate speeds such as 1.25x or 1.5x are supported, or if the speed control works with all video formats stored in Google Photos.

The feature is currently available only on Android, with no confirmed timeline for an iOS release from Google. Like most Google app updates, the rollout on Android is happening gradually, so some users might not see the option immediately even after it launches in their region.

Google Photos has not announced any changes to its video editing tools in conjunction with this update.
