Google has launched a new dictation app called Google AI Edge Eloquent on iOS. The app performs transcription locally with on-device Gemma-based models, offering an optional cloud mode that uses Gemini for extra text cleanup.
It is currently free and available on the Apple App Store. An Android version seems to be in development. The App Store listing directly references Android integration, and a “Download for Android” button briefly appeared on the app’s website before being removed.
Features of the Google AI Edge Eloquent Dictation App
AI Edge Eloquent provides a real-time transcription as the user speaks. When dictation pauses, it automatically removes filler words like “um” and “ah” from the transcript. Users can then choose to reformat the cleaned-up text into different output styles such as key points, formal, short, or long.
The app also supports importing custom vocabulary through a connected Gmail account or manual entry, helping it accurately recognize names, technical terms, and domain-specific jargon. A session history feature tracks words per minute and the total number of words spoken during each session.
By default, all processing happens on the device, with no data sent externally. Switching to cloud mode routes transcription through Gemini models to perform more extensive cleanup, which requires an internet connection.
When Google AI Edge Eloquent Might Arrive on Android
Google has not announced an official release date for Android. The App Store description for the iOS app mentions Android system integration features, such as the ability to set Eloquent as the default keyboard for system-wide use across any text field and a floating button for accessing transcription from any app.
A “Download for Android” button appeared briefly on the app’s website during the iOS launch period but was later removed. Google has not provided any comments regarding the Android release timeline. Currently, Google AI Edge Eloquent is available on the Apple App Store at no cost.
