Anthropic has introduced Claude for Word, a Microsoft Word integration that allows users to access Claude’s editing features directly within documents. Edits are shown as tracked changes, comments are managed within the thread, and updates are applied to the specific passage they relate to.
The feature is currently in beta and is available to Claude Team and Enterprise plan subscribers.
What Claude Can Do Inside Microsoft Word
Claude for Word works directly within the document rather than as a separate app. Users can highlight a paragraph and ask for a rewrite, add a comment in a section to get an AI response in the same thread, or start from a template and have Claude generate content that matches existing headings, bullet points, and formatting. Text from uploaded sources can also be pulled into the document during drafting.
The integration scans entire files for issues such as mismatched terms, broken cross-references, and numbering that gets out of sync in longer documents. When a problem is found, Claude flags it and suggests a fix, but it does not make automatic changes, leaving the decision to the user or team.
Reusable Workflows With Skills and Cross?App Context
Teams that follow consistent review or drafting processes can turn those workflows into reusable skills. A skill records the steps, tone, and structure of common tasks, like reviewing a contract or drafting a status update. Once saved, any team member can run the workflow to get the same results without setting everything up again.
The same conversation can be carried across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, enabling work to transition smoothly between document types without starting from scratch. As Claude makes changes, formatting and structure are maintained (including headings, numbering, and defined terms) rather than being reformatted.
Availability of Claude for Word
Claude for Word is now available in beta for subscribers on the Claude Team and Enterprise plans. Anthropic has not provided a timeline for wider rollout or for including it in lower-tier plans. The feature is part of Anthropic’s Claude Cowork product, which is expanding with enterprise controls as more businesses adopt it across various functions.
