Spotify Adds Settings to Disable Music Videos

Spotify is introducing new video controls that let users turn off video content within the app, including Canvas visuals, music videos, and podcast videos. The update is starting to roll out globally today for Family Plan managers, with controls for all Premium, Basic, and free users expected later this month.

These controls work across all Spotify platforms, including mobile, desktop, web, and TV. Users who disable video content will still see video ads and Canvas-like visuals on some audio advertisements.

The new settings cover two types of video content: Canvas looping visuals that go with audio tracks and video content for music and podcasts. Each can be turned on or off independently. To access these controls, go to Settings, then Content and Display, and toggle the relevant options. Preferences set here will apply across all devices where the account is active.

Family Plan managers can also enable or disable video content for any member of their plan immediately through the subscription settings. Spotify says this builds on existing controls already available for managed accounts of users under 13.

Controls for individual Premium, Basic, Duo, Family, and Student plan subscribers, as well as free-tier users, will start rolling out globally later in April. Spotify has not given a specific date for when all account types will have access.
